Functional and modern space

Fujitsu's head office in Helsinki has been completely refurbished and the space updated. The company's visual guidelines dictated the use of the space and the fit-out, but local preferences were also taken into consideration. The brief was to reuse existing furniture as far as possible because sustainability and low environmental impact are important values for Fujitsu.

The aim was to change the working environment by moving away from personal workstations to an activity-based office and to create a functional, comfortable space that promotes cooperation and productivity.

The update was carried out in stages so that the employees could continue working in the premises during the refurbishment. Scheduling was therefore important.

"At Fujitsu, we are moving towards a communal and inclusive organisational culture. The updated workspace underpins this ambition because it promotes interaction and cooperation with colleagues. Work is no longer tied to a physical place, because with digitalization, routine tasks can be carried out anywhere. For this reason, face-to-face meetings are even more important than before, as are social interaction and group innovation,” says Tuomo Järvinen, Head of Procurement and Property at Fujitsu Finland Oy.

Lower environmental impact

In this project, sustainability and low environmental impact were key factors. Kinnarps thus helped Fujitsu Finland Oy reuse some of its existing products and work them into the new design and layout. By using existing furniture in good condition, Fujitsu was able to avoid approximately 89,850 kg in CO2 emissions and 49,300 kg in waste.

"We are very pleased with Kinnarps's project team; the work was completed on time and deliveries arrived according to schedule. Changing needs during the project were taken into account and cooperation was smooth. The updated space is fresh and modern and something to be proud of.”

Ergonomic workplaces

Fujitsu's new solution has dispensed with personal workstations. The focus is on ergonomics, with height-adjustable desks and adjustable task chairs. The lockers for storage of personal belongings add colour to the space.

Importance of cooperation and face-to-face meetings

Fujitsu's new-look office aims to promote cooperation and informal meetings. The space and furniture solutions are flexible and can easily be adapted to different situations.

Cosy lounge areas

On every floor there is a lounge area decorated in a different colour theme. The lounge is a comfortable meeting place where people can eat lunch, read emails or hold quick meetings.

A variety of meeting and project spaces

The office has a variety of meeting spaces for both traditional meetings and project work. Ergonomic solutions, such as meeting tables at counter height, enable an active meeting style where people can switch between sitting and standing.

Areas for concentration

Areas for concentration are needed in activity-based environments, and Fujitsu has several different ones – including rooms for phone calls and small rooms for independent and remote working.

Positive experiences led to cooperation

Previous workplace projects carried out together with the furniture company and positive references encouraged Fujitsu Finland Oy to turn to Kinnarps. A broad product range, good quality, sustainability, and the company's way of managing projects were major factors in making this decision.

The companies cooperated on the layout plans. New and existing furniture pieces were mixed and combined to create functional and harmonious workspaces, meeting areas and project spaces. Kinnarps supplied the free-standing furniture, lighting, plants and rugs, as well as much of the fitted furniture. The interior design company dSign worked on the interior design project and was responsible for the space plan and the overall look and colour scheme of the office.”

The sizeable project was carried out according to plan and the end result is a functional, comfortable and modern work environment.

"From the very outset of this project, Kinnarps has proved to be one of the integral elements of its success. Their ability to adapt during the project phases whilst seamlessly working alongside our design team provided a truly cohesive workplace landscape that not only delivered on, but has exceeded, the project brief.”

Olly Dickinson, Head of Property and Workplace Standards - Nordic & Western, Fujitsu NWE

Summary:

  • The office design and the choice of furniture were based on sustainability, quality and functionality.
  • The sizeable project was completed on time.
  • The end result is a fresh, modern work environment that will stand the test of time.
